Happy Thoughts And Jellybeans

Sneen falder så sagte.

I haven’t seen Moomincat but…

cat left footprints

I have a feeling he’s been around.

I feel like digging out my old collection of Don Rosa comics. I’m sure I still have them somewhere, probably in the bottom drawer in my room. Like many other of my possessions they are old and falling apart, but also full of good memories. I think I might be addicted to nostalgia.

Geronimo Jackson And Zeeke’s Shotgun Wedding

The sound of falling snow.

Or rather, the sound of falling ice. All day. It sounds like the world is falling apart. Last night there was a big storm. Everything was covered by ice. Literally big chunks of ice on the walls and doors and windows and everywhere. And then daylight came and all the ice is falling. Falling from everywhere. From trees and rooftops and fences. Falling from the sky down on the snow on the ground. Only the top of the snow has frozen almost to ice as well. So ice falling on ice. All day. I was lying in bed, trying to sleep. And it sounded like people running outside. Chunks of ice falling on snow and ice, like loud footsteps.

And powerful winds. Blowing the snow around. I think it’s raining now. Frightful weather. I hope the snow won’t be completely washed away. I didn’t go out and play in it today, my stomach was hurting. Plus I didn’t want blocks of ice falling from the sky onto my head.

I haven’t seen Moomincat. I hope he’s home and safe from the weather. I keep my window open as much as I can, just in case he’d stop by and need a warm bed. I can always use a warm cat.

My brother’s birthday. Because both he and my mother worked nightshift today we will celebrate tomorrow instead. But I did give him his present, the Elvis CD. And he was happy with it, so that was good. No love lost.

I like talking to Moomincat. You might remember that I like to meow. A couple of days ago, Moomincat was sitting on the floor and I meowed at him and he meowed back and I meowed in response and he walked up to me and meowed. I don’t know what we talked about, but it was funny nonetheless. I like that he responds to me. Animal voices are soothing.

I hope I can get a cat like Moomincat when I move out on my own. He seems perfect for me.

Speaking of great actors on Lost, I love MC Gainey. He should get a Golden Globe for Best Beard In a Live Action Drama. And also Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (or Adebisi as I always want to call him, his character from OZ). I hope Gainey will get more screentime. Oh also the guy who plays Desmond, those are three great season 2 characters.

It’s my birthday in two months, you should all get together and pool your money and buy me a helicopter.

Snickerdoodles

It has been snowing all day, pretty much. Very beautiful and calming. I haven’t been out in it though, been feeling sick. But I have watched it through our windows. And the little kid inside me is yelling loudly. “Go out and play in the snow, Plume! So what if your fingers freeze off and you get pneumonia and asteroids fall on your heads! It’s snow, all pretty and glistening and waiting for you”. My little kid isn’t the smartest kid in the world, but that’s okay. Who wants to grow up and be a smart adult? Where is the fun in that?

Do you remember that cartoon with the snowman that comes alive and flies away with the boy? I used to watch it every christmas. I feel like watching it now. Or just… building a snowman.

It’s my brother’s birthday tomorrow. He’ll be 26. Gosh. I guess when I look at him I only see his inner kid. I made a present for him. An Elvis CD. Following on the success of the Willie Nelson CDs I made for my mother last year. Peter loves Elvis. I don’t know if he’s really into live music, but it’s an “official” bootleg so the quality is great. The artwork sucks, but that’s not my fault. That’s the fault of our ancient and barely-functioning printer. I hope he’ll like it. It’s the thought that counts though. Just making the effort and giving him something, that’s good. My mother complimented me on it tonight. We are not the closest family. At least I am not the closest family member. Every little thing counts.

Tomorrow I’ll go play in the snow.

I Believe I Can’t Fly

Unexpected snowfall last night.

sweet snow

And how sweet it is. The beautiful snow.

stuck in the snow

I am the Snow-weatherman.

snowed in car

I love how cars look, covered in snow. I’m sure it’s less fun if you actually own a car. But it always makes me want to get in and sit in the car, in the dark, windows covered by the snow. Maybe I should just build a snow fortress?

Rewind a couple of days. Before the snow fell. Let’s all go to the playground, get ourselves a treat.

The twins and the prince

The lambs. The big Prince and the little twins. They are baahing a lot more now. And they sound like sheep, not like otherwordly staccato robots. You have missed some videos if you don’t understand what I mean.

It’s great to see them grow. Like Magnethe.

Magnethe upclose

Pretty Magnethe. I love her voice, it makes me feel okay.

bleating goat

bleating Magnethe

I like how the goats baah. With their tongues out like that. It reminds me of The Simpsons, their characters always have their tongues out when they scream. vis-a-vis.

bænken

Mads on the bench. I think that’s his favourite place to be. Not just when I’m around. When I get there he’s already up on the bench. A nice throne from which he can oversee his kingdom.

Fast-forward back to today.

Mathilde

Mathilde. Sweet girl.

What's in the bag

And naughty. I think I said so already, but you can never-ever have your bags in peace when there are goats around. I put the bag over in the corner, then I go and sit down on the bench and get the goats to come over there with me. But eventually, inevitably, one of them goes over to snoop in the bag. And it doesn’t matter if there’s any food in there. If there’s no food in the bag then they just start chewing on the bag itself.

Moomincat paid a visit, after a couple of days’ abscense. He’s such a beautiful cat.

pretty kitty

Moomincat

I’m still not completely sure he’s a he, but Anne said so and she knows a lot more about animals than I do. And he does look rather princely.

Peter saw him. My brother. I didn’t know Moomincat was in my room, when I opened the door he just slipped out and went in to the living room. Much to my brother’s surprise. “Since when do you keep a cat, Lasse?” he asked. And I explained that it wasn’t my cat. Then I picked him up and carried him into my room and sat down with him and wished he was my cat.

I fell asleep while Moomincat slept in a cardboard box, at least I think he slept. When the alarm rang I got up and couldn’t see him anywhere. But then he started meowing, he was still in the box. (The box was in a little sort of alcove or such, so I couldn’t see it from my bed). Then he came out and jumped up on my bed. So I think we were both napping. I would have preferred him to sleep on my bed, but who am I to take him away from such a lovely cardboard box? Just knowing he was in the room was a nice feeling.

It is odd. Life. I have these things that make me incredibly happy. Moomincat. The goats. Reading again. The snow. I should be happier than ever, but I am not. I feel sad and tired mostly. I think I will have to go to my doctor and talk about the medication. I looked the meds I currently take up on the net and it said that the maximum dosage was 60 mg. I’m taking 40 mg tablets. Maybe it would be a good idea to up the dosage. Because they did help me for so long. I started taking them in… December 2004 I think. And I started feeling okay around January last year, when they kicked in I assume. And then for so long I was not sad, almost never depressed. But then around mid-November, I guess, the sadness came back. I had a hard time. It got better when vacation came, I took a break from it all. But now I’m back at work, back at facing the problems, and I am feeling sad and tired a lot. I am feeling unmotivated. I sometimes feel like things are crumbling. Falling apart in my hands.

Last night I imagined jumping off a rooftop. I guess I will go see my doctor soon. And I will try to enjoy the good things, because they are incredibly good. It doesn’t help to feel guilty about feeling bad when you should be feeling good.

  1. Katherine Says:

Yes, do see your doctor. It could be very well the meds. It’s common for people to need adjustments in meds like that.

I love the snow pics… the colour is so beautiful. Almost bluey-grey. I like how snow mutes the other colours and makes landscapes look like a black and white photo. My favourite animal photo today is of Mathilde facing the camera with her ear tags. She’s so cute…like she’s got earrings on. They are very sweet those animals. It sounds like Moomincat has adopted you. Maybe animals have their very own adoption agency with pictures of humans on the wall…wouldn’t that be cute. The world would be a lonely desolate place without the animals…even the ferocious ones. I like just knowing the elephants are out there. It’s comforting.

  2. Milla Says:

Well, I had my meds adjusted and even changed one time & since then I
feel a lot better. So yeah, Plume, you should try consulting your doc. And another thing that kinda helps me when I feel unmotivated, is writing a day planner. I think of things I can do and it helps to have a plan ;)

We also had lots of snow this week and it looks great. Your pics are beautiful. Your furry friend is adorable! And the camera seems to love the goats. Yeah, these creatures make our lives a whole lot better and more colourful.

    Huggs :)

  3. Annie Lee Says:

I don’t know if they told you this in therapy, but anniversaries bring stress, even if its something you don’t necessarily think about, like the anniversary of the time a meteor fell on your house. So, like, if you’ve had birthdays that are bad, just the season of your birthday can be a stressor. And of course, if there are any bad Christmas memories, thats a big one too, even if your conscious mind isn’t thinking of it that way.

I Owe You

Cats are most mysterious creatures, aren’t they?

I walked into the living room and was greeted by a soft meow. Out from under our table came Moomincat. Somehow he had found his way inside without being noticed.

I was a little puzzled.

There’s only one way into our house, and that’s through my window. It’s winter, all other doors and windows are closed. So he had to have come in through there. And since I didn’t notice him then he must have slipped in while I wasn’t in the room. Normally I would have my door closed while I’m not in there. And normally the door to the living room would be closed too. I must have been in the bathroom, that’s the only explanation I can find. There must have been a tiny little window of opportunity where both doors were open and I wasn’t in any of the rooms. And he must have gone in and sat down under the table in the living room.

I was home alone at the time. That was another lucky circumstance. If my brother or mother had been home they would have probably chased him out. Not that they’re big, mean cat-haters. They wouldn’t have chased him out with a broomstick, yelling obscenities. But it’s not our cat, and he’s not supposed to be in here. So it was a good thing that they weren’t home and both doors were open and I wasn’t in the room. The perfect circumstance to sneak in and hide under the table and give me a nice surprise.

I took the opportunity to show him around the house. I had been wanting to do that. When he comes in through my window he usually goes right to my door and looks up at the handle, like he wants to go explore the house. And now that there was no one else in the house I figured I would give him the tour. He followed me around, I opened doors for him. He walked into rooms and looked around and then came back out to me.

I wonder if he likes my company as much as I like his? We sat on the couch, he looked half asleep. I got up and walked out of the room. He immediately got up and followed. Maybe he’s not looking for a warm bed to curl up and sleep in, maybe he’s looking for a warm human to curl up next to.

It felt really good. Having a cat in the house. I could get used to it.

Pictures.

moomincat

I like the white on his neck, it makes him look… royal? It’s like a scarf almost.

moomincat

I think the flash annoyed him a little. Silly humans. Funny how his eyes squinted for the flash. And for the cuddles.

moomincat

Bless this holy mess.

moomincat

Hehe. Moomincat went up into the window sill. And started climbing around under the curtain. Before he poked out again.

moomincat

I think cats love hiding places. They probably enjoy surprising people.

moomincat

And you can tell that he owns the place. You can’t really argue possession with a cat.

moomincat

You know the old joke about aliens coming to earth and observing humans picking up dog poop and therefore thinking that the dog is the superior being? I think it’s very true. Animals are superior. We can’t MAKE them love us. But they can make us love them. They have power we don’t have. We can build the tallest buildings, but we’ll still be staring at the stars. The real giveaway is how much we focus on power. The ones who don’t care about power are the ones that are powerful.

Sorry, it’s too early in the day for philosophising.

moomincat

I wouldn’t want to be president of a country, but I would want a cat in my lap any day.

moomincat

And I always feel a little sad when he jumps out of my window and climbs the fence to our neighbour’s yard and disappears. But you can’t own a cat. If I took him then I’d be taking him away from someone else. Everytime he leaves I appreciate the next time he comes even more. I have just finished reading The Little Prince and I want to somehow correlate the two. I don’t know what planets Moomincat are visiting, but I love that he comes back to mine.

I thought he was pretty new to my world. I thought the first documented visit was when he came in through my window on January 1st. But then today, by some random string of events that I won’t bore you with I suddenly saw this picture in my photoalbum:

Moomincat. From an entry written on July 25th last year. I met him outside my house when I went to Tina Dickow’s autograph session in Stereo Studio. I almost missed my bus because he was so cuddly and lovely. Amazing. Half a year ago. So he has been around for a while.

Looking at that picture, it doesn’t look like he has a bare spot on his stomach. So that must mean that he had some kind of operation between that first meeting and now. And that means that he definitely must have a family that takes care of him. And he is just a friendly visitor, not a cat in need. That logic is not flawed, is it?

Made some videos of him. Pretty kitty.

And also a couple of funny ones of the goats.

I watched Shopgirl today. I liked it a lot. I have always liked Claire Danes. But who hasn’t, after My So Called Life? I have also always liked Steve Martin. And the movie had some really beautiful scenes. Beautiful music and visual. The stars…

And some relatable things. Claire’s character’s anti-depressants.

“I know it’s hard for you to be close”
“Sorry”

It reminded me of Skye. It can be hard to be close, but it’s awful to be apart.

I am also listening to old Amiga music. I am prone to nostalgia. Monkey Island, Shadow of the Beast, Myth, Turrican. Great music, great memories.

There are a lot of really great things in my life.

And yet I don’t feel okay.

Tina Dickow & P3 Prisen

I am working on an entry featuring Moomincat, who gave me a big surprise today. But first off.. congratulations to Tina Dickow who won the P3 Prize today. P3 is the biggest (I assume) Danish radio station. It’s a pretty prestigious prize I think, certainly to me it me means a lot more than all those crappy wannabe-MTV award shows we get. Anyway. The prize was well deserved. She almost couldn’t deliver her speech because the audience kept clapping. What a beautiful moment. 2005 really was her year, I hope 2006 will continue the trend. In The Red is being released in the UK and America right around these days, so if you want to support good Danish music from possibly the nicest and sweetest singer in the world then I suggest you check it out.

Que Sara Sara

At almost exactly 7 am today Moomincat came through my window. 7 am is a tricky time. It’s not late enough to get up and go to work, it’s not early enough to still get a nice long sleep before I have to get up. It’s sort of stuck in the middle.

Moomincat stayed for some 15 minutes. When he left I went back to sleep, a little sleep is better than nothing. I was morbidly tired at work though. Crushed-down tired. I didn’t get much work done. That wasn’t all my fault though. I need some material and the people I need it from are not there. Anyway, I was busy trying not to fall asleep.

I was interrupted by the new cute bargirl. She is sweet and cute and gorgeous. She’s only 18 though. Too young for me. But rest assured that’s the only reason we aren’t a couple already. If she was older then I promise I wouldn’t hesitate to… stare at her for a really long time and never say anything.

It made me feel bad actually. Made me feel like a huge, hideous glob of gelatinous waste. Like I am some ghastly, decomposing ogre walking around in a city full of elves, beautiful people. Everybody wants to be loved, that’s what it comes down to. I am no different. I am fine on my own, yeah right.

I wish I was made of clay, then I could model myself into something better.

NP: For Martha

I was so tired that I didn’t even go see the goats. Shock horror gasp. It rarely happens that I don’t go see them on a weekday. I did go to the library to pick up my reservations. The Little Prince, the last Hedegaard book and a stack of Moomins. Funnily enough the wintermoomin is the only one I haven’t got. But that’s ok. I have enough Moominstuff to last me a little while. I want to get lost in the valley, it is a nice place.

I am a little like Peter Pan, I never grew up. That works a lot better in literature though, in the real world it sort of causes problem.

I wish I could write fiction. I have a children’s story brewing in my head. It started like a simple comment to Katherine and now I feel it wanting to form. But whenever I try to write stories then it all crumbles. My mother said to me the other day (paraphrased) “What happened to your dreams of being an author? Hah!”. I thought that was incredibly mean and hurtful of her. She didn’t mean it like that though. But still. Broken dreams and wasted potential.

Many years ago I worked at the publishing house Hovedland. Internship for a year. On the first day we sat in the kitchen and had coffee and tea and talked. And I said that I had always wanted to be a writer. And they asked why I hadn’t written anything then? And I said that it was hard to write about the world when you hadn’t experienced it yet. And they agreed. And 10 years later I still have barely experienced the world.

Maybe some day I will write the big American novel. And then I’ll try to convince the Danish publishers that it can be sold in Denmark too.

But until then, here are some pictures from yesterday:

And there she is going through my stuff. You can never, ever have your bags in peace if there are goats around.

tongue

More baahing. I love the sound of goats bleating, it soothes me.

Lovely goats. Tomorrow I shall definitely go see them. I’m sure they want to be loved too.

you are experiencing the world right now, lasse. i think for the first time in a long time. and i think that your experiences with the animals are a great breeding ground for childrens stories.

I visit your site regularly, and you have a very rare talent for writing extremely funny, insightful and thought provoking words.

If you want to be a writer, then write. Even if its only for yourself. You have a MASSIVE talent, which you shouldn’t waste. So write when and what you feel like writing. Authors don’t pick up an pen and write classics from start to finish. They can take years to get it right. Its not like counting. Sometimes 4 comes before 2. So don’t be afraid to go down blind alleys in your writing. Thats what lifes about. Playing wrong notes.
And as for wasted potential. You’re not dead are you?!

And you’re not wasting your potential. Your entries to the blog are classics. You have a view of life that very few people will have. And i truely think your stories will become classics too. Maybe for many. Maybe for only one or two. But I definately believe they will change peoples lives. The way they think, the way they feel.

You have a great, charming and useful talent. Embrace that.

Frown Upside Down

I think I have made a new friend.

Moomincat came through my window again today. Not once, but twice. And I swear he must have some sort of sixth sense that tells him when I am sleeping. I was lying in bed both times.

First in the morning. The alarm had buzzed and I was lying in my bed, enjoying the fact that I didn’t have to get up. Half awake. Halfway between sleep and reality. And then I felt him landing on my bed. My bed is cleverly placed straight underneath the window, so if anyone wants to sneak in then they have to land on the bed. I love the feeling of a cat landing on me.

He did his “usual” routine. Jumped down on the floor. Looked around in my room. Looked at the door. And then jumped back up on my bed and curled up in a ball. He only stayed for 5-10 minutes. Then he jumped up in the window sill and sat there for a few minutes. And then jumped out in the yard.

He walked around in my back yard and climbed up on the roof of our neighbours.

cat on the roof

There he is. There was another cat in our yard too. Moomincat went into our barely standing shed, I was watching him through my window. And I could see another cat. I wonder if they know each other. Or if my back yard is suddenly just the big hip hangout-place for cats.

Fast-forward through the day. Not doing much. Going up to see the goats. Then taking a nap. Waking up in the middle of it because something lands on my bed. Yup, Moomincat was back.

I had been wondering whether I would be able to sleep with a cat in the room. Just the presence of someone, or something, else. I have always slept alone, except for with Skye (how I miss it). So, I decided to try it out. I didn’t get up. I peeked a little every now and then and saw Moomincat still lying in the foot-end, all curled up. And eventually I fell asleep. He must have been sleeping too. What a beautiful, wonderful thing. To fall asleep with a cat in my bed. I can’t properly articulate what a lovely feeling it is. I guess if you have a pet of your own then you’ll know.

I woke up by the alarm going off. I sat up and saw Moomincat staring at the alarm. Haha. Everybody hates alarm clocks. I turned it off and cuddled him a little to apologise for the rude awakening. And then he jumped up in the window sill and looked out for a minute and then jumped out and left.

What an amazing cat. I feel so priviliged, that he wants to take naps in my bed.

You have to be thankful for little wonders.

How else are things going? I went back to work, which was tough after being sick and being depressed. Sanne, my boss, is so understanding. It’s amazing. I am thankful for that too. I have had to move though. Eh, long story short: Poul Erik has stopped. Søren and Kenneth has started. Søren has long legs. Poul Erik’s desk is short. Søren has taken my desk, I have taken Poul Erik’s desk. Got it? I don’t mind, because Poul Erik’s desk is in the corner. And I like corners. Two out of four angles are safe. I always go for the corner when I have to sit down in new places.

Søren, by the way, seemed like a jolly fellow. He reminded me of Ross and Monica’s dad on Friends. Gould? For some reason. He came and asked about what I was doing. I was picking colours for next month’s flier and poster. And he also showed me his palm pilot thingie. It was quite smart. He had all his photos in there.

He got my computer of course, and I have this program running that keeps changing the desktop picture. It cycles through 20-30 of my pictures. So he asked about my pictures and showed me his and we talked a little. Really good social exercise.

So that’s okay. And it was good to get back to work too. To keep sane.

Also went to the library. It wasn’t quite succesful. I wanted The Little Prince and the moominbook where they wake up from hibernation in the winter. I got neither. But I did get Comet In Moominland instead. I think I’ll just get all the moominbooks and read them. I’m not sure if they’re actually considered kid’s books or not. But I don’t care, I will play by my own rules. I also got Den Gamle Biograf. Book 4 in the Vesterbæk series by Jacob Hedegaard Pedersen. If you are Danish then you should dig up book 3, Flugten Fra. Look in the credits. You will find my name in there. I think I’m listed as “script consultant”. Hehe.

Yes, yes. Made reservations for The Little Prince, Moominland Midwinter, Høst (last of the Vesterbæk series) and a “learn to play guitar” video. Yup. It feels good to use the library again. When I was a kid I practically lived in there. I am disappointed in myself for how little I have read since I “grew up”. But I guess that whole “isolate myself from the outside world” thing is a good excuse.

Speaking of suicidal thoughts, thank you for listening. Now that I’m back at work and back in health and there’s a little snow on the ground and a visiting cat, hopefully my mood will improve. I have thought about going to my doc to talk about the medicin. I guess I’ll see how I feel the next week or two.

There’s a lot of good in my life. Not least you guys.

Cheshire Smiles

It came back. The cat.

Yesterday. Early in the morning. I was woken by something landing on my bed. And I knew what it was. Turned on the light and got my glasses and there it was. The same cat, in through my window.

It jumped down and looked around a little and then got back up on my bed and curled up in a ball and layed there. While I watched it.

Amazing.

I’m going to agree with Anne and Katherine. It’s obviously not stray or lost. It must be a regular house cat, just coming to visit once in a while. It’s healthy and beautiful. It’s not starved for attention either. It sat on my bed for a while, then it jumped up in the window sill and sat there and looked out. And then jumped out and left.

I hope it will come back soon. It makes me happy. If I ever had any doubts about getting a cat then they are definitely gone.

Moomincat, I’m calling him. Or Mumikat in Danish.

Otherwise I have not actually been doing that great. I sat in the shower today and wondered if it would be possible to slit one’s own throat. Would a human being be capable of that? If you can slit your wrist, can you slit your throat? If you close your eyes, is there a difference?

But I will try not to think like that. Must press on. Think of sweet cats and goats. Of Mads bleating when he sees me through the fence and trees on the other side of the street. Of the twin lambs still being small and lovely.

I’m going to the library soon. To get a moominbook. And The Little Prince. And a “learn how to play the guitar, and don’t keep putting it off” book. And Høst + Den Gamle Biograf by Jacob Hedegaard Pedersen because those are the only of the Vesterbæk books that I haven’t read. He was publishing the first ones when I worked at Hovedland.

It will be good to read again. I hope.

Plume, my comment on this is… get this ish out of your head, seriously :D There are so many things that can happen to a human being, that is kinda an ant in the universe’s hands, that thinking what a human being can do to himself is a waste of our precious time my dear ;) Focus on what the world can do for you and what you can give it in return. Sounds like a fair deal to me. And the world can give you lots of things… like a gorgeous Mumikat, snow, Tina Dickow, friends and me, who leaves long exciting comments in your blog (hehe :D).

Me wishes you a nice friday man :)

The cat has claimed your bedroom as its own. That’s like a member of the royal family deciding your home is their castle. Cats are pretty picky about where they hang out.

I wish an elephant would climb in my window. Alas…the window is too small and elephants don’t like cities. I wonder if this is one of the Jedi kitties. A JediMoominkat? Perhaps the cat is your guardian angel. Like Santa visits the children, the Kat checks on her charge to make sure they’re ok.

Lasse, the suicidal thoughts may be your medication needing adjusting. It sounds like a brain chemistry thing (what do I know…???) but when you look at your life now, objectively, you’ve achieved so much, conquered many fears. This takes a lot of courage and willpower. Maybe it’s time for a checkup, and if you need more therapy and counselling, there’s no reason not to have it. I was in therapy for five years…saw my psychiatrist every two weeks for one hour. It’s not unusual for people to need therapy for awhile.

Anyway, I also want you to know I’m glad you are open about what’s happening with you and I hope my post doesn’t make you think you should stop talking about it. The opposite is true. We care and are here for you… please don’t hurt yourself. And if you’re tempted, please seek help right away.

Katherine, you put it well in words! Thank you for trusting us Plume and sharing what you feel. It’s sometimes help in itself, but yeah, it would be a good idea to turn to a specialist if those thoughts come once in a while. The thing is that sometimes these thoughts are not controllable and you need a little help from aside or just someone to listen and give a good peace of advice. Might be a chemistry thing, I agree on that.

I wish someone came crawling through my window (well, a four-legged creature with fur and good intensions that is), but it’s very unlikely, cuz I happen to live on the 10th floor. Unless it’s a bird! Oh, that would be sweeeeet :) Maybe I should hang food from my window and wait.

Uh, and I’ve got a confession to make… I’ve never seen an elephant in 3D before. They are amazing creatures, I think I’m gonna go to the zoo this summer and check them out. Or a circus… but then I donno… I wish I could see one in his/her own habbitat. Cuz I’m not sure if people treat those sweeties well in zoo or circus.
A question for Katherine: is it true that sculptures of elephants with their trunks up bring good luck? Just wondering ;)

Dear Plume, don’t forget, we’re here for you, no matter what.

  5. Katherine Says:

Milla, Asian cultures have a tradition in their sculpturing and art that a trunk up brings good luck. Too bad it doesn’t bring elephants good luck though because most are horribly exploited. And the wild ones are losing their habitats. If you want to see 3D elephants that live naturally, visit http://www.elephants.com and click on their elecamera. It’s a sanctuary in Tennessee and the elephants are very happy there whether their trunks are up or down. Just knowing they are happy makes me feel lucky.

Moominplume

Would you excuse me while I go throw up?

Thank you.

I am not at all well. My stomach is upset. And I don’t mean that it’s ranting about the war in Iraq.

Let me also take this opportunity to say thank you for the comments. About the new year and the cat. Thank you Milla for the big new year comment, that was beautiful. Thank you Anne for mentioning Mumi troldene. “The Moomin trolls” as they seem to be called in English. Every now and then, perhaps once a year, perhaps not even that, I remember the mumitrolde. And I am hit by a wave of nostalgia, sort of like with Bamse På Planet. Just something undefinable from your childhood. I hardly remember them. Hazy images in my mind. I remember loving the stories. I think my mother read them to me. And there was a cartoon. In which the mumitrolls woke up early from hibernation and their valley was still covered by snow. And me loving snow, well that was just the perfect setting. I remember being scared too. There was some kind of lady winter or lady frost? She scared me. There was a popup book too that scared me. I seem to remember some dark parts of the stories, some melancholy. But also beauty and joy. And adventure. I think I really, really loved those stories when I was a kid. I have an overwhelming desire to find the books and read them now. Or the comics or cartoons or popup books.

I want to be a kid again.

Also great big thank yous to Meredith, Clare and Katherine whose christmas cards I received today. It’s like christmas come early.

In the spirit of giving I have updated the video section.

Three videos of goats in the snow. From last year. After the snowstorm. You can see how much snow is left on top of the fence. But Mads breaks through it. You can also see Magnethe shake herself like she’s a wet dog. And then after that she swings her head around so her big floppy ears fly all over the place. Cute.

Two videos of my feline visitor. The wonderful, sweet cat. See for yourself how sweet and lovely it was.

I forgot one detail about it. One of the first things it did when it had settled down on my bed was to lick itself all over. Cleaning itself. Cleaning the fur. I just sat and stared in awe of course. It acted like it felt completely at home and at ease with me. How wonderful.

Now you’ll have to excuse me again.
